The idea
A question does not always need one correct answer. Wormillion asks you to name a place that fits, then rewards you for thinking beyond the most familiar names. The excavation is a record of that journey, one answer at a time.
The answer bank
The game uses 32,845 independently collected places from Wikidata structured data under CC0, with aliases, geographic facts and verified English Wikipedia articles. Obscurity uses a fixed observation window of 59 completed days of Wikimedia pageviews, scaled to a monthly figure. The initial 90-day snapshot remains available for saved launch-day games. No finite bank includes every valid geographical name. The category guides show the current counts and sample entries, with links to read about the places.
Wikipedia data and geographical classifications can change. The bank is a gameplay dataset, and disputed or ambiguous classifications should not be treated as a comprehensive reference.
Made for this expedition
The pixel worm, ground, mine supports, lanterns and excavation effects are drawn by the game’s canvas renderer. The landscape is generated in code and the tunnel is carved as you play.

Your progress
The new site preserves the game’s scoring rules and daily numbering to support returning accounts and their history. Your expedition log and score tables show saved progress; the privacy page explains what is stored.
