Build a mental river map
Instead of searching your memory for a single world-famous river, picture one region. Move from its main river to the tributaries and smaller waterways you know. A familiar local name can be a useful alternative to the first answer everyone thinks of.
Read the whole prompt
Some rounds ask for any river. Others narrow the answer by a country, region, hemisphere, length or letter rule. A valid river can still be outside the requested group; the game tells you when the place is recognised but does not fit.
Names need a little care
Common aliases and many spellings without accents are recognised. Where two rivers share a name, a qualifying name may help identify the one you mean. The score belongs to that specific entry, not to the word alone.
Three places to start with
| Place | Obscurity | Dig |
|---|---|---|
| Dunajec ↗ | 10% | 15.0 m |
| Capertee River ↗ | 55% | 82.7 m |
| Chomutovka ↗ | 89% | 132.9 m |
These percentages are calculated from the game’s stored pageview data, using the same code as your dig. They are not live visitor counts or the percentage of players who know an answer.
Examples fit the unrestricted category. A round with extra conditions may need a different answer. Read the full scoring method.
